The company

HungryButNotStupid is a product of OSIH CompanyOriginal Software Intelligent Hardware — a Swiss company based in Wynigen, Bern, Switzerland. We also operate at osih.ch, where the rest of our research lives.

We are independent and self-funded. There is no growth team, no advertising business, and no investor pressure to ship a feature we don’t believe in. The product roadmap is set by the people who use the product and by the three of us who maintain it.

How it started

Founded in 2026 after the founder spent one too many evenings scrolling through Google reviews trying to pick a restaurant while his kids quietly lost faith in him. It was not fun. The good news is that he had already built Bwendi, a patent-pending context calculation engine, for an unrelated problem. Pointed at restaurants instead of land, it just clicked. HungryButNotStupid is what happened next.

We don’t want to be the biggest food app. We want to be the one you actually trust when you’re hungry in a city you don’t live in.

What we ship

Three principles run through every recommendation. They’re also how we decide what not to build.

01

Local-only signal

What locals say, what the place looks like at this hour, who actually shows up. No tourist optimisation.

02

No paid placement

Restaurants don’t pay us. We don’t take ad money. The pick is the pick.

03

Privacy by design

We collect the minimum we need to give a useful answer. No advertising trackers, no profile sold.

The people

A small team that argues a lot about food and ships fast. Two food critics keep us honest about taste; one engineer keeps Bwendi pointed at the right signal.

Francis Osih

Founder · Switzerland

Built Bwendi, the patent-pending context engine that powers the picks. Refuses to eat anywhere with a host stand outside.

Craig Bristol Time

Critic · Toronto

International food critic. Brought the discernment we use to decide what counts as a good local table and what is just a loud one.

Manuiva Brodien

Critic · Europe

European food critic and festival organiser. Reads trends and local palates so the model doesn’t flatten them into one global taste.

What we believe

Star ratings are noise. Tourist traps win because they optimize for foot traffic, not for food. The information that matters — what the place is actually like at this hour, who eats there, what they order — is local context, and local context is hard. That’s the part we do for you.

Our quality signal is built from what locals say, what location sentiment looks like in real time, and how a place behaves at the hour you actually want to eat. We don’t take payment from restaurants and we don’t rank places we’ve been paid to promote. Ever.

Privacy by design

We collect the minimum we need to run the product. No advertising trackers, no behavioural profiles sold to anyone, no surprise data sharing. Read the privacy policy for the exact list of what we touch and why, and the terms of service for the legal frame.
